Fashion’s biggest night is finally here, and celebrities from across the globe are turning the Met Gala red carpet into a living gallery, each look a bold interpretation of “Fashion is Art.” Among the standout regulars, Natasha Poonawalla returns once again, and this year, she is impossible to miss.

For the gala, the businesswoman stepped out wearing a sculpture by Marc Quinn, paired with a custom couture ensemble by Dolce & Gabbana. The look was pure couture theatre, built around a bold, sculptural floral concept.

The outfit featured an oversized, white, petal-like structure that framed her body like a blooming flower. It was the detailing that made the look truly striking. The petal construction had a delicate, almost paper-like texture, while the centre subtly resembled the anatomy of a flower, giving it a surreal, high-fashion edge.

Her styling was sharp and intentional. The hair was swept up into a voluminous updo, elongating the neck and ensuring nothing competed with the statement silhouette. Long, dangling earrings added just the right amount of sparkle.

Talking about the look, Quinn shared, “I see the Orchid Pectoral as a piece of fashion inspired by my artwork. In this iteration, it only exists with its meaning activated when Natasha wears it, rather than as a sculpture in its own right. What has always excited me about fashion is that, unique amongst art forms, it involves the living body and the life of the wearer. It’s a piece of art that can only exist as fashion, showing, as we know, that fashion is art.”

The orchid Quinn chose is the phalaenopsis, a flower that blooms across continents and has carried meaning through centuries as a symbol of rebirth and enduring beauty.

Prior to this, Poonawalla shared another look on Instagram, where she was seen sporting the iconic Fall 2019 haute couture dollhouse dress by Maria Grazia Chiuri for Dior.

Interestingly, two of Poonawalla’s couture looks are on display at the Met Museum for this year’s exhibition. These include a Dolce & Gabbana Alta Moda look from their 2019 show and a Fall 2024 couture creation by Thom Browne.

The Met Gala is held at the Metropolitan Museum of Art in New York every year on the first Monday of May. This year, the exhibition theme, “Costume Art,” explores the relationship between clothing and the human body, treating fashion as something deeper than just clothes. The event is co-chaired by Beyonc, Nicole Kidman, Venus Williams, and Anna Wintour.

As for Indian representation, Isha Ambani, Sudha Reddy, Manish Malhotra, Karan Johar, and more are making a striking impression on the red carpet.
