The process of deciding future pay and pension changes for central government employees is picking up pace. The 8th Pay Commission has now lined up fresh meetings with key stakeholders, signalling that detailed consultations are well underway.
DELHI MEETINGS SCHEDULED FOR MAY 13–14
In its latest circular dated May 6, 2026, the Commission said it will meet institutions, unions and associations linked to the Defence and Railway sectors in Delhi on May 13 and 14, 2026.
These discussions will involve organisations under the Ministry of Defence (MoD) and Ministry of Railways (MoR), along with registered unions based in the capital.
DEADLINE TO APPLY: MAY 10
Groups that want to present their views must apply online by May 10, 2026. The Commission has made it clear that only those who submit requests through its official portal will be given an appointment.
In its May 6 circular, the Commission said it plans to hold more such meetings in Delhi, and details will be shared on its website in due course.
Before this, the Commission completed its first round of formal discussions with representatives of the National Council–Joint Consultative Machinery (NC-JCM).
These meetings were held in Delhi from April 28 to April 30. It marked the beginning of direct interaction between the Commission and employee groups.
During the three-day discussions, several issues were raised. These included demands related to salary structures, pension changes, and overall service conditions.
NEXT PHASE: OUTREACH BEYOND DELHI
With the initial Delhi meetings now over, the Commission is moving to the next stage. It has planned visits to different parts of the country to gather more feedback.
As per the schedule, meetings will be held in Hyderabad on May 18–19, Srinagar from June 1 to June 4, and Ladakh on June 8, 2026.
Meanwhile, the Commission has also asked unions and associations to submit their memorandums and meeting requests within the given timelines through its official portal.
These consultations are expected to play a key role in shaping the Commission’s final recommendations on pay, pensions, and benefits for central government employees.
