What began as a love story in 1996 has now turned into a courtroom battle in the Gujarat High Court, where a 60-year-old woman is fighting to “get back” the man she says has been her partner for nearly 30 years.
The couple never married. They built a life together in Ahmedabad, had a son, and spent three decades in a live-in relationship. But now, the woman claims, the man’s sister has taken him away, confined him inside her Gandhinagar home and cut off all contact between the two since February 2026.
The case, packed with emotional accusations, family tension and allegations over property, has become one of the more unusual matters to reach the Gujarat High Court in recent months.
‘HE WAS TAKEN AWAY’
In her habeas corpus petition, the woman claimed her partner’s sister called him to Gandhinagar, saying she was unwell. After that visit, she alleged, he never returned.
The petitioner told the court that the sister was allegedly keeping the 60-year-old man under her control and preventing him from meeting her.
She further claimed that medicines were being administered to him and that he was being isolated despite undergoing treatment in Ahmedabad.
For months, she alleged, she tried everything possible to contact him.
The petition says she approached private investigators and even complained to the police commissioner, but received no meaningful help. Finally, she turned to the High Court seeking intervention.
COURTROOM DRAMA
The matter took a dramatic turn when the elderly man was brought before the High Court during the hearing.
According to the proceedings, he appeared visibly unwell. But despite the family dispute unfolding around him, he told the court he wanted to live with the petitioner.
That declaration intensified the legal and emotional battle inside the courtroom.
On the other side, the man’s sister strongly opposed the woman’s claims and alleged that the petitioner’s real interest was not love, but family property.
The allegation added another layer to a case already filled with twists; a three-decade relationship without marriage, a child born out of wedlock, accusations of confinement and now a property dispute between an ageing family.
RELATIONSHIP THAT SURVIVED 30 YEARS, NOW UNDER SCRUTINY
According to the petition, the couple had lived together in Ahmedabad for years despite never formalising their relationship legally.
The woman maintained before the court that both wanted to continue living together, but family interference had separated them.
The High Court has now granted time to the man’s sister to file her detailed response. The next hearing in the matter is scheduled for June.
For now, what remains before the court is not just a legal dispute, but the unravelling of a deeply unusual relationship that survived nearly three decades before ending up in a habeas corpus petition.
