Delhi-NCR witnessed a sudden spell of rain on Saturday night, bringing a brief change in weather after a warm and humid day, even as meteorologists warned of continued instability in the coming days.
The overnight showers came just hours after temperatures in the region had started rising again, breaking the short-lived cooling effect from earlier rainfall earlier this week.
Following the changing weather conditions, the India Meteorological Department issued orange and yellow alerts for different parts of Delhi-NCR, warning of thunderstorms, lightning, and gusty winds over the next 48 hours.
Officials have cautioned that weather conditions remain volatile, with the possibility of more scattered rainfall and strong winds in multiple pockets of the region.
HOW THE MORNING LOOKED BEFORE THE RAIN
Earlier in the day, Delhi had already started showing signs of rising temperatures again. The national capital recorded an increase in both maximum and minimum temperatures on Saturday morning, just two days after light to moderate rain had briefly cooled the city.
At Safdarjung, the minimum temperature stood at 25.9 degrees Celsius, while the maximum touched 38.6 degrees Celsius, both reflecting a clear upward trend compared to the previous day.
Other weather stations across Delhi-NCR, including Palam, Lodhi Road, Ridge and Ayanagar, also reported similar increases in temperature, indicating a widespread warming pattern before the night showers.
WHAT IMD HAD PREDICTED
The India Meteorological Department had already warned of unsettled weather conditions, issuing a yellow alert for the next two days.
Officials had forecast very light to light rain along with thunderstorms, lightning, and winds reaching 30–40 km/h, with gusts up to 50 km/h.
Meteorologists had also indicated that temperatures would remain in the range of 36–38 degrees Celsius during the day, with humid conditions persisting across the region.
WHAT EXPERTS SAY ABOUT COMING DAYS
According to weather experts, a fresh western disturbance is currently influencing northwest India, triggering a cyclonic circulation over adjoining regions.
This system is expected to keep conditions unstable, with intermittent light rain likely in parts of Delhi-NCR over the next few days.
Experts also say there is no possibility of a heatwave in the region for at least the next week, though weather will continue to fluctuate between warm spells and brief rain events.

Forecasts suggest that Delhi-NCR will continue to experience patchy rain, thunderstorms, and gusty winds over the coming days.
Temperatures are expected to remain in the mid-to-high 30s during the day, with nights staying relatively warm and humid.
Weather systems are likely to remain active, meaning residents may see alternating spells of heat, cloud cover, and short bursts of rainfall.
