the kitchen is closing: the bear sets season 5 premiere

A major television milestone is on the horizon as the critically acclaimed, multi-Emmy winner The Bear is officially readying its final course for fans.

The kitchen is closing as FX has announced that the fifth season of Jeremy Allen White’s culinary dramedy, The Bear, will be the last. The final instalment will premiere on June 25. As with earlier seasons, the series will not be released weekly, with all eight episodes set to drop on Hulu at 6 pm PT and 9 pm ET.

Season 5 begins the morning after Sydney, Richie and Natalie (Abby Elliott) learn that Carmy (Jeremy Allen White) has quit the food industry and is leaving the restaurant in their hands. According to the logline, “With no money, the threat of a sale and a torrential storm in their way, the new partners must band together with the rest of the team to achieve one last service, hoping they’ll finally earn a Michelin star. Ultimately, they learn that what makes a restaurant ‘perfect’ might not be the food, but the people.”

The announcement came a day after the surprise release of “Gary”, a special flashback episode featuring Ebon Moss-Bachrach and Jon Bernthal. The bonus episode, now streaming on Hulu and Disney+, follows Richie and Mikey on a work trip to Gary, Indiana.

Created by Christopher Storer, The Bear debuted in 2022 and became a word-of-mouth hit. Its first season won 10 Emmys, including the best comedy series, and helped establish White as a leading man. Season 2 won 11 Emmys, while Season 3 received 13 nominations but did not win. The fourth season is eligible for this year’s awards cycle, while the final season will compete in 2027.

The ensemble cast also includes Lionel Boyce, Liza Colón-Zayas, Matty Matheson and Edwin Lee Gibson. Ricky Staffieri, Oliver Platt, Will Poulter and Jamie Lee Curtis appear in recurring roles, while guest stars include Olivia Colman, Sarah Paulson, Bob Odenkirk and John Mulaney.

Storer executive produces the series with Josh Senior, Cooper Wehde, Tyson Bidner, Matty Matheson, Hiro Murai and Rene Gube, while Courtney Storer serves as culinary producer.

With Season 5 now set for a June 25 premiere, The Bear is preparing to bring its run to a close. The show is expected to be available for streaming on JioHotstar in India.
