Met Gala 2026 is over, but the fashion hangover is here to stay. International celebrities went all out with their experimental looks this year, while attendees from India made sure to put the country and its art legacy at the forefront. This year saw several debuts, including Ananya Birla, Karan Johar, Sawai Padmanabh Singh, Gauravi Kumari, and Bhavitha Mandava, all of whom made sure to grab headlines.
Among them, Ananya Birla stirred quite a buzz with her Robert Wun look, and then again with her after-party outings – making a memorable, high-on-style debut. Complementing the scale of the Met Gala, the looks were high on drama, which she pulled off effortlessly.
Her voluminous skirt, paired with a structured black blazer featuring a cinched waist and sculptural peplum, created a strong, architectural silhouette. And the plunging neckline paved the way for her to flaunt a statement diamond necklace.
The highlight was Indian artist Subodh Gupta’s signature metallic mask, made with steel kitchen utensils.
Birla roped in stylist Rhea Kapoor for the Met. And her debut, in particular, felt right on point. It was stylish without trying too hard, bold yet balanced, and seamlessly blended high-fashion and art.
Birla’s Met Gala shenanigans didn’t end with the red carpet appearance. She went on to leave fashion moguls floored with her after-party looks.
At the 2026 Cartier Met Party, Birla turned to Ashi Studio for a couture moment, elevating the look with bespoke creations from Raniek Jewels, where vibrant Paraiba stones, yellow diamonds, and a rich cognac diamond added a luminous finish.
Kapoor titled this look “The Bronze Woman – The Aftermath I”, and the metallic tones and intricate detailing of the attire made Birla appear like a living bronze statue.
She continued her fashion streak at the 2026 GQ Met Party, stepping out in a demi-couture ensemble by Harris Reed. The outfit paid tribute to The Woman with the Sitar by M F Husain, a significant work from the Birla family’s private collection.
The dress code for this year’s gala, “fashion is art,” set the tone for bold, expressive style, and all three of Birla’s looks rose to the occasion. Each ensemble blurred the line between fashion and artistic expression, reflecting creativity, craftsmanship, and a strong visual narrative. Her choices didn’t just follow the theme, they brought it to life with intention and impact. Don’t you agree?
