memorable met gala moments ft. indian celebs

Met Gala 2026 is right here. This year, fashion’s biggest night is set to witness several Indian names, including Isha Ambani, Sudha Reddy, Natasha Poonawalla, Karan Johar, and Manish Malhotra, walk the red carpet.

Mind you, this is the red carpet where guests embrace eccentricity and unapologetic extravagance in their fashion choices. This year, expect an even greater dose of drama, driven by the Met Gala exhibition theme and its dress code.

The 2026 dress code, ‘Fashion is Art’, promises bold and imaginative interpretations, and it will be exciting to see how guests bring it to life through extravagant ensembles. Meanwhile, here’s a look back at the times Indian celebrities have made standout appearances at the Met Gala.

Priyanka Chopra Jonas

Priyanka Chopra Jonas made her Met Gala debut in 2017 in a Ralph Lauren trench coat gown, which was widely turned into memes. Since then, she has attended the event several times and delivered memorable fashion moments.

In 2019, when the theme was Camp: Notes on Fashion, she embraced the theme’s quirkiness in a Dior caged dress, complete with dramatic, voluminous hair. In 2025, she attended with her husband, Nick Jonas, wearing a polka dot ensemble with a voluminous skirt silhouette.

This year, however, Priyanka Chopra Jonas is reportedly expected to skip fashion’s biggest night.

Alia Bhatt’s saree moment

Alia Bhatt made her Met Gala debut in 2023 in a dreamy white Prabal Gurung gown, but it is her Sabyasachi saree moment that remains unforgettable for every fashion enthusiast.

One can always expect entrepreneur, philanthropist, and fashion icon Natasha Poonawalla to deliver head-turning moments on international red carpets. At Met, she has done so time and again. In 2022, however, she went a step further and made an unforgettable statement in a gold Sabyasachi saree paired with a Schiaparelli metallic bustier.

Isha Ambani

Since her debut at the Met Gala in 2017, Isha Ambani’s red carpet style has grown bolder and more refined with each appearance. One of her most memorable looks was a black concept saree with sparkling accents, paired with Chanel’s iconic Bombay Doll bag.

In 2024 and 2025, she continued to champion Indian designers, wearing a heavily embellished floral gown by Rahul Mishra and an androgynous pantsuit by Anamika Khanna, respectively. As for the Met 2026, she has already created a major buzz with her pre-gala event appearance in a Manish Malhotra dress that maps India.

Diljit Dosanjh

Some red carpet appearances double as lessons in pop culture history, and Diljit Dosanjh at the Met Gala 2025 was exactly that. He proudly brought Punjab to the coveted red carpet in a regal ivory ensemble inspired by Maharaja Bhupinder Singh’s royal wardrobe, complete with a turban and heavy jewellery. His cape, in fact, featured an embroidered map of Punjab and Punjabi alphabets in Gurmukhi.

Shah Rukh Khan

For his Met Gala debut last year, King Khan kept his outfit choice safe with an all-black Sabyasachi suit. However, he leaned into experimentation with his styling, sporting a stack of necklaces, including a scene-stealing ‘K’ pendant, and carrying a cane on the carpet.

Deepika Padukone has attended the Met Gala several times, but it was in 2019 that she truly delivered the expected dramatic sartorial flair. Embracing the theme, “Camp: Notes on Fashion,” she arrived in a strapless pink Zac Posen gown that instantly evoked the image of a life-size Barbie.
