Several Indian workers lost their lives in a road accident on Dubai’s Emirates Road on Monday after a minibus carrying workers crashed into a truck that had broken down and stopped in the middle of the road. The collision killed seven people and injured nine others, according to Dubai Police.
According to Dubai Police, early investigations indicate that the truck had stopped in the middle of the road because of a mechanical problem. The minibus travelling behind it then collided with the vehicle.
Brigadier Juma Salem bin Suwaidan, Director of the General Department of Traffic at Dubai Police, said investigators are examining the circumstances surrounding the crash.
“The bus driver, who allegedly failed to pay attention and keep a safe distance, then rammed into the truck from behind,” he said in a statement.
Authorities said the investigation remains ongoing and further details will be released once inquiries are completed.

The mission said its officials had visited the hospital where injured workers were receiving treatment and were coordinating with local authorities.
“Our heartfelt condolences and prayers are with the grieving families during this difficult time,” it added.
Authorities have not yet disclosed how many workers were on board the minibus at the time of the collision.
