A Nashik Road court on Saturday rejected the anticipatory bail plea of accused Nida Khan facing allegations of hurting religious sentiments and attempted forced religious conversion at a TCS office in Nashik.
The hearing on Khan’s plea had been conducted in camera on April 29. During the proceedings, Special Public Prosecutor Ajay Mishra represented the state, while advocate Rahul Kasliwal appeared for the accused. ACP Sandeep Mitke, representing the Special Investigation Team (SIT) as the investigating officer, also presented the prosecution’s stance and opposed the grant of bail.
Earlier, on April 18, the defence had argued in favour of anticipatory bail, with Kasliwal presenting submissions before the court. However, the prosecution strongly contested the plea, citing the seriousness of the allegations and the need for further investigation.
According to the prosecution, Khan allegedly influenced the victim, who belongs to a backward class, and introduced her to specific religious practices. The state claimed that the accused guided the victim in wearing a hijab, encouraged religious observances, and facilitated the downloading of religion-related mobile applications. It was also alleged that certain links related to religious content were shared with the victim.
The prosecution further stated that the victim’s name was allegedly changed, and that important documents were in the possession of another accused, identified as Danish. Investigators also informed the court that several books and materials linked to the case had been seized and would be presented as evidence.
Digital evidence, including mobile messages and the victim’s statements, along with testimonies from family members, have been included in the investigation. Authorities are also probing possible links to Malegaon and an alleged international connection to Malaysia, where prospects of jobs or promotions may have been used as inducements.
The prosecution additionally argued that aspects related to influencing the victim and possible intimidation or pressure tactics are under scrutiny.
After hearing arguments from both sides, the court had reserved its order last month. The decision, delivered today, denies anticipatory bail to Nida Khan, marking a significant development in the ongoing investigation.
